The RAG Ball was the culmination of an hectic week of student fund raising for charity. The annual RAG Week was an exciting event, held around Shrove Tuesday, with students dressing up, causing chaos and mayhem in the city streets, and taking part in a procession of decorated floats all accompanied by the noise of rattling collection buckets.
The evening's entertainment ensured it would be a night to remember. In the Main Hall was Kenny Ball and his Jazzmen, exponents of traditional jazz, also known as "trad jazz", which attracted huge audiences in the late 1950s and early 60s. Kenny Ball, a British jazz musician, was lead trumpet player and vocalist in the band and was renowned for the flair, excitement and enthusiasm he brought to his performances.
