Acquaintance and Flirtation card
Acquaintance and Flirtation cards emerged during the Victorian era, particularly in the mid to late 19th century. The cards were small, typically 76 x 44mm (3 x 1¾in), designed with a simple illustration, a few lines of verse or a brief message. While calling cards were already a common practice during this period, these novelty cards enabled the art of social interaction for the less formal male or female.
Flirtation cards, in particular, became popular among young people to express romantic or flirtatious intentions and allowed them to engage in playful banter and establish connections in a socially acceptable manner.
While Acquaintance and Flirtation cards may seem quaint and formal by today's standards, they served as a discreet way for individuals to express their interest, forge relationships, and navigate the delicate rules of courtship and social engagement.
