Making a journey has long been associated with ephemera. From tickets, journey maps and travel brochures, to simple packing and supply lists, the printed or hand-written documents produced to facilitate travel is a rich source for many collections. We are on the move in this Spring issue of The Ephemerist: Barabara Lyon takes an ephemeral journey by boat in the South Sea to the warm climes of Australia, New Zealand and Hawai, while Martin Plaut throws a spotlight on the Italian graphic designers’ depiction of troops in Eritrea in the 1930s. Closer to home, Maurice Collins reveals the mechanics of moving ephemera with various pieces of Victorian advertising and Mrs Pepys reminisces about the days when a paper tax disc was required for a car.
