Ephemera Books Plus

Welcome to Ephemera Books Plus! This new resource includes references not only to books, articles and theses, but also to blog posts, podcasts, YouTube videos, etc. Covering a wide range of subjects, it is available to everyone, from those new to the world of ephemera to academic specialists.

Ephemera Books Plus is very much work in progress and we are actively seeking additions to it. If you would like to offer a comment or suggestion, please fill in the feedback form here.

How the information is organised

The default ‘All items’ folder (at the top on the left) displays the entire bibliography, alphabetically by title.

Items have additionally been assigned to folders by genre, subject, type of resource, country, etc. Items are in multiple folders where relevant. To see the bibliographical data for an individual item, click on the item. Tags generated by the online catalogues consulted have been retained but not curated.

The different types of resource are indicated by symbols. Most have also been assigned their own folders, making it possible, for example, to explore a wide range of topics through blog posts or podcasts/YouTube videos.

How to search

The entire bibliography can be searched by selecting the ‘All items’ folder on the left and using the search bar. Individual folders can also be searched.

Geographical coverage

This resource focuses mainly on publications from UK and USA, with representative work from other countries. Folders for Country / Continent indicate the subject coverage, not the place of publication.

Sources

A wide range of sources has been used, including:

• File cards at the Centre for Ephemera Studies (with thanks). These were created by the Ephemera Societies of the UK, USA, Canada and Australia in the mid 1980s and early 1990s
• Suggestions from individuals
• Bibliographies in published works
• Online bibliographical resources, notably JISC Library Hub Discover, WorldCat, Google Scholar, JSTOR and individual library catalogues. These online sources are given: users can consult them to find physical locations for each work and, where applicable, links to digital versions (some requiring institutional logins)

Links

Where a work is freely available or only available online, hyperlinks can be opened by clicking on the URL or DOI in the data. In other cases, some URLs and DOIs are given in the notes, but users should check source catalogues for online availability of works cited.

Limitations

Entries are intended as pointers, not full bibliographical descriptions. The capitalisation and punctuation of the downloaded entries has not been standardised. The bibliography is incomplete, and additions will be made regularly.
